Herndon recorded the original in 1996
Grammy-nominated country artist Ty Herndon and singer-actor-author Chrissy Metz will release a reimagined version of “She Wants To Be Wanted Again” on September 19th. First recorded by Herndon and released as a single from his 1996 sophomore album Living In A Moment, the song was written by Billy Henderson and Steven Dale Jones.
“This song has always held a tender place in my story — it’s about longing, second chances, and the simple human need to be truly seen,” Herndon says. “Bringing it back with Chrissy, who sings with such heart and honesty, lets us honor the original while refreshing it for a whole new generation of listeners.”
Originally released in 1996, “She Wants To Be Wanted Again” became a fan favorite and climbed into the Top 30, peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart—helping define the era that made Living In A Moment a signature record in Herndon’s catalog.
The new recording brings to life the natural chemistry between Metz’s honest, resonant vocals and Herndon’s unmistakable tone, framing the lyric with contemporary production that underscores the song’s pulse and heartbreak without losing the classic feel fans know and love.
“I’ve loved this song since the first time I heard it,” adds Metz. “There’s a tenderness and vulnerability in the lyric that feels as relevant today as it did in the ’90s. We hope listeners hear themselves in it and feel a little more understood.”
“She Wants To Be Wanted Again” marks the third single from Herndon’s forthcoming double album career retrospective. The first installment, Thirty Vol. 1, is due this fall on his new label home, Club44 Records. The project will feature reimagined versions of some of Herndon’s biggest hits and fan favorites, each featuring guest collaborators to bring these classic country hits to life for a new era.
