Cody Johnson shares ‘The Fall’ video

Dustin Haney directed the clip

COJO Music/Warner Music Nashville and CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee Cody Johnson has premiered the video for his current hit single “The Fall.” The debut was followed by a YouTube after-party with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the video. The video was directed by award-winning director Dustin Haney, who also helmed Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t,” “Human,” “The Painter,”  and “Dirt Cheap” clips.

The video bridges two sides of Johnson’s life, the cowboy and the entertainer. World champion bull fighter Cody Webster stars in the leading role, playing the rider who gets beaten up and thrown down, but he gets back up to ride again. The lyrics of the song are brought into clear focus as the film changes imagery of Cody performing the song in a dark field in the pouring rain and the bullfighter who proves over and over again the ride is indeed worth the fall.

The video’s premiere falls on the heels of Cody’s second-annual COJO Championship Event, presented by Tractor Supply Company, held in Benton, Texas, last week. Unfortunately, Cody was unable to attend due to his recent emergency surgery to repair a burst eardrum. The competition showcased elite team roping and breakaway athletes from across the country, with proceeds benefiting the Texas FFA Foundation both throughout the event and during the Champs for Charity: Cowboy auction and dinner, upholding Cody’s enduring commitment to empowering the next generation of agricultural and rodeo leaders.

“The Fall” is the second single off Johnson’s Leather Deluxe Edition album and was written by Bobby Pinson, Jeremy Stover, and Ray Fulcher.

The Texas native has four nominations for the upcoming 59th Annual CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, his first-ever with the CMA’s, Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as Music Event and Video of the Year with Carrie Underwood for their two-week No. 1 hit “I’m Gonna Love You.” The CMA Awards will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 19th, on ABC and the next day on Hulu.
