The new set is available now
On the heels of the release of her singularly eccentric debut album, Wildflower, prolific artist-writer Zandi Holup releases Wildflower: Pickin’ in the Meadow. The new collection features a haunting cover of Juice Wrld’s “Lucid Dreams,” with an accompanying live video.
“Music can be reimagined in a myriad of different ways,” shares Holup. “I recorded these live versions with my band, and I love how they turned out. I’m excited to share them as a bit of a different take on my album Wildflower.”
The five-song collection was recorded in a wildflower meadow in Nashville, the perfect earthy environment to capture Holup’s vocals. New stripped-down versions of “Go Find Less,” “Mountain Man,” “Mary Jane,” and “Wildflower” are featured on the project. The gorgeous project reflects her intricate artistry and debut album.
Preceding the new project, Holup’s debut Wildflower embedded her songwriting with a lovely entangling of poetry, confession and fable-like narrative. When it came time to create the album, she joined forces with producer Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Wyatt Flores) and spent a month recording at Bear Creek Studios in the woods of northwest Washington. The result is an intentionally simplistic but exquisitely detailed sound firmly centered on her voice and lyrics.
Not only a prolific writer but also a performer, the Pennsylvania-born, Nashville-based artist has shared the stage with Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Jamey Johnson, Wyatt Flores, 49 Winchester, Midland and more.
Singer/songwriter Zandi Holup has the kind of voice that instantly cuts to the heart’s deepest corners: enchanting, enigmatic, profoundly world-weary but radiant with raw feeling. After building a grassroots following by sharing her demos and song fragments online, Holup landed a deal with Big Loud Records and set to work on her debut album, Wildflower, a revelatory body of work born from embracing her singular eccentricity, ultimately bringing an incandescent beauty to the most painful of experiences. Holup joined forces with producer Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Wyatt Flores) on the record, captured during a month-long recording at Bear Creek Studios in the woods of northwest Washington. Cut from the same cloth as legendary folk singer-songwriters like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell, Holup’s raw brand of original folk country flourishes through unfiltered storytelling reminiscent of Dolly Parton and emphasized by her emotive vocals.
