Adkins soothes the pain of holiday heartbreak with the bluesy track
Trace Adkins sings the holiday blues on his all-new original song “One More Christmas” via Caliburn Records. The bittersweet country ballad arrives as the multi-platinum entertainer takes the stage on NBC’s holiday special Christmas in Nashville, airing on Wednesday, December 3rd at 10 pm ET/PT.
Written by Adkins, Derek George (Travis Tritt, Randy Rogers Band), and Monty Criswell (George Strait, Parker McCollum), “One More Christmas” marks a departure from the fun-loving, mischievous mood of “Naughty List” (another original Christmas song from Adkins, released last November). This time around, the Louisiana legend perfectly captures how loss hits harder during the holiday season, offering up a slow-burning heartbreak song with a truly timeless power.
Produced by George, “One More Christmas” opens on a velvety saxophone melody before Adkins gently takes in the holiday cheer all around him. With its soul-soothing backdrop of tender guitar lines, lush piano work, and softly chiming sleigh bells, the harmony-tinged track turns wistful as the chorus reveals his one and only Christmas wish (“One more / Chance to say I love you too / Yeah, one more / Night to hold what I’m missing / To wrap you in these arms of mine / Snow falling on the pines / This time of year leaves me wishing / For one more / Christmas with you”). Although the song’s second verse stirs up an aching nostalgia (“If you were here you’d be spinning / That old Nat King Cole / And I’d be loving every minute / And dancing you real slow”), Adkins’ warm baritone ultimately provides a powerful balm sure to ease the pain of anyone who’s missing someone this season.
For his highly anticipated appearance on Christmas in Nashville, Adkins will perform “Naughty List” and the all-time holiday classic “White Christmas.” Hosted by three-time Grammy winner Trisha Yearwood and filmed before a live audience at Category 10 in Nashville, the two-hour special will also feature performances from The War and Treaty, Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers, Lauren Alaina, and Ne-Yo. In addition to airing on NBC, Christmas in Nashville will be available to stream on Peacock beginning the following day.
Rounding out another action-packed year for Adkins, “One More Christmas” follows the recently wrapped What Color’s Your Wild Tour — a major U.S. headline run that kicked off in March, taking its name from a hard-driving anthem released in February. Earlier this year, Adkins hit the road on Blake Shelton’s Friends & Heroes Tour.
