Interscope signs East Atlanta rapper J.I.D.

East Atlanta rapper J.I.D has signed with J. Cole’s Dreamville Records and Interscope Records, which released his official debut single “Never” in December. A video for “Never” is now out.

“I wrote the song at a point in my life when I had nothing and when my future seemed uncertain,” J.I.D. states. “Throughout it all I had was my family and great people around me who allowed me to pen my pain and take a chance on pursuing my dreams”.

A member of the Spillage Village collective with EarthGang, producer Hollywood JB, Jordan Bryant, and DJ DarkKnight, J.I.D released a mixtape, DiCaprio, in 2015.

“I wrote the song at a point in my life when I had nothing and when my future seemed uncertain.”

The 25-year-old’s big break came through establishing a relationship with J.Cole’s childhood friend Cedric whom he met while accompanying EarthGang and performing with his Spillage Village members on the These Days Tour with TDE member Ab-Soul and fellow Dreamville signee Bas. J.I.D would send music to Cedric who would then play it for Cole and the Dreamville team on the Forest Hill Drive tour. J.I.D eventually met and developed a relationship with J. Cole which led to him being signed to the North Carolina rapper’s imprint Dreamville.

The next set of stories J.I.D will be telling are on his forthcoming project The Never Story. “Growing up as the youngest of seven siblings just sucked but there are a lot of valuable lessons that can be learned from watching the mistakes of others and seeing them grow,“ he says. “It’s not always about the end results but about the journey along the way.”
