CMT greenlights ‘Music City’ docu-series

Debuting Early Next Year, This Series From Lionsgate Follows a Group of Young, Aspiring Artists Chasing Their Dreams in the Home of Country Music

CMT has unveiled the new docu-series Music City from famed unscripted executive producer Adam DiVello, the creator of iconic shows such as The Hills and Laguna Beach, through DiVello’s Done and Done Productions banner. Music City reunites CMT and Lionsgate, who partnered last year to save fan-favorite Nashville.

Music City follows a group of young emerging artists chasing their dreams of success in the music industry, while struggling to balance their personal lives and relationships. Filmed in Nashville, TN, the eight-episode series is slated to premiere early next year alongside Nashville, which returns for new episodes in January.

Production on Music City comes on the heels of a strong year for CMT, which has posted ten consecutive months of year-over-year ratings growth with Adults 18-49 and with Women 18-49. Quarter-to-date, CMT is up +17% from year ago with Adults 18-49 and up +20% with Women 18-49. (L+SD, CMT Total Day).

“Music has always played a huge role in the storytelling process of my past series,” says creator/executive producer Adam DiVello, “and with Music City, we’ll take that element to another level, as we document the real-life struggles, heartaches, and drama of those chasing their dreams of stardom. Nashville is such an exciting city and I can’t wait to share with the world the stories of this incredibly talented cast we’ve put together.”

DiVello first gained prominence as a producer on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which he also developed. The series, which introduced a new look and style to reality television that quickly caught on with viewers, followed the personal lives and exploits of a group of high school students and paved the way for DiVello’s highly successful spin-off, The Hills, which ran for six seasons on MTV. Focusing on the drama-filled lives and careers of several young women including Laguna Beach’s Lauren Conrad, the show became one of the most talked-about series on television and led to another spin-off, The City, which DiVello also created and executive produced.

Music City is produced by Done and Done Productions in association with Lionsgate. Adam DiVello serves as creator and executive producer.
