Advance listen to “King Of The World”
Rising artist Abbey Cone embodies the authenticity of her music. Filled with passion, honesty and heart, she does not shy away from expressing her truest self, which she puts on display with her debut collection Hate Me, due April 22nd via The Valory Music Co. The release perfectly covers the full spectrum of love and is a true representation of Cone’s impressive artistry as she co-wrote and co-produced all six tracks.
“This project is me. I felt the feelings, I wrote the songs, I co-produced, I co-directed and co-created every part of this release with my team, incredible cowriters, my family and my best friends. I could never release something that didn’t feel undeniably me,” shares Cone. “I have a vision for every part of my career. I love how involved I was in creating this project and no matter where it lands in the musical universe, I’ll always be proud of it.”
Featuring heartfelt “Rhinestone Ring” and emotional breakup song “Hate Me,” anticipation for the collection builds with the release of new track “King Of The World,” available now.
“‘King Of The World’ is the less romantic side of the small town boy story,” Cone adds. “It’s the story of the insecure ones, the ones who can’t handle a girl destined for more than her hometown. The ones who think they’re king of the world, but unfortunately have never experienced more than a few square miles of it.”
Cone first made the trek to Nashville at age 12, actively beginning to hone her craft and find her voice. The Texas native has been singing for as long as she can remember and has focused on building a career in country music on her own terms, as a young woman writing authentic and emotionally resonant music that connects with the newest generation of country listeners and beyond. With an induction into CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2020 and named one of Pandora’s 10 Country Artists To Watch in 2022, Cone has already made her mark. The rising singer/songwriter most recently spent time on the road with Brittney Spencer.
We chatted with her ahead of the CMT Music Awards in Nashville. That interview is below.
