A live recording of “He Stopped Loving Her Today” is now available
The Grand Ole Opry, in partnership with Virgin Music Group, releases the live recording of the iconic George Jones classic “He Stopped Loving Her Today” from its upcoming exclusive album Opry 100: Country’s Greatest Songs. The live recording of one of country music’s most iconic songs is a “full circle mix” of Jones’ performance on the Opry stage in 1993, with Alan Jackson singing the song on the Opry stage for Jones’ funeral in 2013. Jones first joined the Opry 69 years ago this month, and Jackson became an Opry member in June 1991.
“He Stopped Loving Her Today” follows the first single release last month of Ashley McBryde’s live performance of “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” originally recorded by Hank Williams in 1952. The album contains a second “full circle mix” as well as rare Opry member collaborations, debut performances of songs that became classics, performances marking country music milestones, and more.
Opry 100: Country’s Greatest Songs is set for worldwide release on November 7th, just weeks before the institution’s 100th anniversary on November 28th.
