‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ to get physical deluxe 4K release

The film will be available in a deluxe 4K format this fall

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will reportedly release Becoming Led Zeppelin in physical form on Friday, September 30th. According to photos of the packaging circulating on social media and movie forums, the first-ever sanctioned documentary on the group will come in a deluxe Steelbook edition with the film on 4K and Blu-ray.

Disc extras are unknown at this time, but the two-hour film appears to be accompanied by two guitar picks, two sticks, a VIP souvenir booklet, a printed letter from director Bernard MacMahon, and four black-and-white early photos of the legendary band.

Sony Pictures has yet to make an official announcement.

Dive into the rise of an era-defining rock band in Becoming Led Zeppelin. Trace the journey of Led Zeppelin from their early concerts and the development of their influential sound, all the way up to the release of their second album. As the only documentary of its kind that the band themselves have participated in, it includes brand-new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones, with rare archival interviews with the band’s late drummer John Bonham. Uncover the dedication and hard work that fuelled their legendary success and the birth of a rock and roll phenomenon.

Becoming Led Zeppelin traces the journeys of the four members of the “Stairway to Heaven” rockers through the music scene of the 1960s and their meeting in the summer of 1968, culminating in 1970.

The film gave a record-breaking performance for its first weekend at the box office as it opened to an impressive $3 million IMAX debut across 16 countries and territories in February. Domestically, the film’s $2.6 million start ($7K per screen average) represented the biggest opening weekend ever for an IMAX-exclusive music release, as audiences nationwide flock to experience the exhilarating docu-concert on the largest screens available.

With its successful debut, the film landed in the domestic top 10 chart at No. 8 upon its exclusive theatrical release in IMAX on 369 North American screens. It held one-night-only early access screenings in 18 markets before expanding widely to one thousand screens. It was released to digital outlets in April.
