“The Card You Gamble” is available now

Arista Records/Monument Records, the official music partner of Fox Entertainment’s highly anticipated new country music drama series, Monarch, has released the series’ main theme song, “The Card You Gamble,” performed by cross-country singer Caitlyn Smith. The series premieres Sunday, January 30th, immediately following the NFC Championship on FOX. The series continues with its time period premiere on Tuesday, February 1st from 9-10 pm ET/PT.

“To jump into a song like ‘The Card You Gamble’ that has so much drama, suspense and mystery was such a fun experience,” says the Minnesotan Smith. “I love that the Love Junkies wrote the song almost as its own character in the show. The music is so central to the storytelling in Monarch, and I’m just excited and honored to be a part of it.”

Produced by three-time GRAMMY Award nominee and series executive music producer Adam Anders and co-producer Peer Åström, “The Card You Gamble” was written by The Love Junkies: Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose.

“The Love Junkies wrote an amazing song that encompasses the themes of our show both lyrically and musically, but stands on its own legs,” shares Anders. “Caitlyn’s voice perfectly matches the sonic landscape that Peer and I wanted to create.”

Monarch is a Texas-sized, multi-generational musical drama. Headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, played by Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, and her beloved husband, “Texas Truthteller” Albie Roman, who is portrayed by Trace Adkins, the family has become a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette “Nicky” Roman, played by Anna Friel, will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.

Monarch is one hundred percent owned and produced by Fox Entertainment. Screenwriter Melissa London Hilfers serves as creator, writer and executive producer. Jon Harmon Feldman serves as executive producer and showrunner. Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady (The Jackal Group), Michael Rauch and top music manager Jason Owen (Sandbox Entertainment) also serve as executive producers. Jason Ensler directed the series premiere, on which he also serves as an executive producer. This will be the first release of many originals and covers performed for the series by cast members and upcoming guest stars.

“The Card You Gamble” follows “A Country Boy Can Survive,” performed by series star and country music icon Trace Adkins, originally released nearly 40 years ago by Hank Williams Jr.
