Chicago; Earth, Wind, and Fire bring Heart and Soul tour to Virginia

Two iconic bands staged a night of hits and deep cuts

Chicago and Earth, Wind, and Fire took the stage at Jiffy Lube Live on Friday (Aug 2nd) for their Heart & Soul 2024 Tour. The Live Nation-produced tour combines the timeless music of Chicago and the iconic catalog of Earth, Wind & Fire for one unforgettable night of music filled with epic sets from each artist that culminates in an encore performance with both bands on stage together.

With more than 200 million albums sold, 11 Grammy wins and nearly 30 nominations between them, the tour provides unparalleled entertainment from two of America’s most legendary musical groups, both Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members.

Chicago started the co-headlining show with a 22-song set. Chicago’s set featured the entirety of the “Ballet for Girls in Buchanan” suite from the Chicago II album. The set also featured “Just You ‘n’ Me,” with Carlos Murguia on lead vocals, “You’re an Inspiration” and “Hard to Say I’m Sorry/Get Away.”

As is Chicago’s MO, lead vocal duties were traded among the group. Along with Murguia, Neil Donell and Eric Baines also took turns on the mic.

After Chicago’s set, Earth, Wind, and Fire brought, well, the fire with their horn-heavy disco-infused signature style. They opened with “Shining Star.” Of course, “Boogie Wonderland” was a highlight, and they closed their main set with “September.”

For a surprise, EWF and Chicago joined forces for the encore. It was here that, after a bevy of Chicago tunes, the band performed “25 or 6 to 4.” With both bands’ horns’ blaring, it was an incredible way to end a night that featured two catalogs of music that have become cultural mainstays.

The trek continues through September 7th with a performance at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California.
