Chris Stapleton joins the Spotify Billions Club

“Tennessee Whiskey” is the latest to capture the feat

Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” has joined the Spotify Billions Club. The streaming company shared the news on social media today (Tues, Aug 13th).

This is the first song for Stapleton to make the list. The song, which was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargove, appeared on Stapleton’s debut album, Traveller, in 2015. The song was popularized by David Allan Coe in 1981.

Stapleton shot to country superstardom after performing the song with Justin Timberlake as part of a medley with Timberlake’s “Drink You Away” at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards. The viral moment became a commercial breakthrough for the artist/songwriter even though the song was never officially released as a single.

“Tennessee Whiskey” is the latest of 700 songs to join the elite club that sees the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Bon Jovi, The Weeknd, and many others. Ninety-five of the songs on the list have surpassed two billion streams and 14 have reached over three billion. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” is the sole track to surpass four billion on the platform.

Kentucky-born Chris Stapleton is a ten-time Grammy, 16-time CMA, and 19-time ACM Award-winner and one of the country’s most respected and beloved musicians. Amid yet another triumphant year, Stapleton recently won four awards at the 59th ACM Awards and two more trophies at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
