Crowded House has released a video for their new single “Oh Hi” in support of the So They Can global movement. The song is the first single off the band’s upcoming new album Gravity Stairs out May 31st on BMG.

“These children at Abedare Ranges School were responding to our song ‘Oh Hi’ which was inspired by and created for them,” frontman Neil Finn shares. “I was so glad they liked it! It means a lot to us to have our music be helping to educate and empower young Africans to break out of the poverty cycle. These kids have few opportunities to make their voices heard but they are magnificent, and the world needs them.”

So They Can currently supports 51 schools in East Africa providing education for 33,000 children, and they are aiming for 500 schools supporting 400,000. Crowded House is supporting So They Can on a mission to get one million people to donate $1 per month or one person to donate $1 million.

This week, Finn and Crowded House performed at the Global Citizen Now: Melbourne summit. At the summit, the international advocacy organization Global Citizen gathered leading voices and young innovators from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond for a dynamic program focused on driving decisive action to end extreme poverty across the region and the world.

Crowded House headlined with an electric set of their greatest hits and new songs, “I’m feeling inspired by a lot of young people in the house who are involved in advocating and inspiring people,” adds Finn, the group’s lead singer. “It’s an honor to be in your presence and to play for you. I hope when you go back to where you came from, every piece of goodwill will flower for you. We believe in you. Go forth.”

Gravity Stairs is Crowded House’s first new release since 2021’s Dreamers Are Waiting and eighth overall. Produced by the band with Steven Schram, the album shows Crowded House in its current incarnation — Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, and Finn’s sons Elroy and Liam — as sharp as ever, feeling musically adventurous, and still capable of reaching the staggering highs that have made them an international favorite. It’s the act of climbing those figurative “gravity stairs,” inspired by a heavy stone staircase near where Finn vacations, that he likens to his own mindset as a creator.

The iconic band will host an exclusive album launch show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on June 13th.
