Dan Tyminski shares ‘This Sad Song’

The song appears on the forthcoming Dan Tyminski: Live From The Ryman

The number of stages that 14-time Grammy winner Dan Tyminski has stepped foot on throughout his storied career is difficult to fathom. From his numerous years as a guitarist and vocalist with Alison Krauss & Union Station to his chart-topping solo endeavors, and every sit-in in between, Tyminski has honed his live performance craft all of the way down to exactly how to pen a setlist to make the most of every show. The leadoff track from his upcoming live concert album, Dan Tyminski: Live From The Ryman, is a perfect example of how the set starts to come together.

“We started a show with a song that I did with Alison Krauss & Union Station a while ago, ‘This Sad Song,’” remembers Tyminski of his performance captured on stage at the Mother Church of Country Music. “I get a nervous energy when we start a show. ‘This Sad Song’ has a type of energy and power that, whether I’m nervous or not, I can sing it hard. I can sing it loud. So, for me, it’s the perfect opening song.” A fiery banjo and fiddle intro sets the stage for the burning number from 2004’s Lonely Runs Both Ways, giving both the in-person audience and folks consuming the recorded show a clear picture of what is to come: a legend in the Bluegrass world performing career-spanning crowd-favorites, backed by some of the brightest young stars in the game.

Dan Tyminski: Live From The Ryman will be released on August 16th release via 8 Track Entertainment and ADA/Warner Music Group. Tyminski’s tour continues in August with Canadian appearances in New Brunswick and Quebec before heading back to the States for a slew of late summer festival appearances.
