The band is the third act to headline the newly immersive venue

Dead & Company is the latest act announced to headline a residency at the world’s most cutting-edge venue, Sphere, in Las Vegas. The band — led by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart and joined by John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane — will launch a 14 or 15-date run beginning in May, according to sources.

The band and venue teased the announcement on social media with a video of the group’s iconic skull-lightning bolt logo displayed on the venue’s Exosphere. “In 2023, Dead and Company Played Their Final Tour. But there are other ways to make sue the music never stops. And it’s gonna be a ball,” the message reads with the band’s “Not Fade Away” playing.

Further details are set to be announced this week.

The group will be the third band to perform at the historic venue. U2 opened Sphere in September 2023 with their highly-anticipated U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere which will wrap after 40 shows in March. Phish follows with a four-night stand in April that will feature unique setlists and visuals, making every show a truly once-in-a-lifetime audio-visual experience. These shows mark the beginning of a new relationship between Phish and Sphere, but they will be the only shows Phish will perform at the venue in 2024.

The groundbreaking Sphere features next-generation Sphere Immersive Sound, powered by HoloPlot, which provides crystal-clear, individualized sound to every seat in Sphere, giving fans the same mix no matter where they sit or stand. The system consists of approximately 1,600 permanently installed and 300 mobile HoloPlot X1 Matrix Array loudspeaker modules and includes a total of 167,000 individually amplified loudspeaker drivers.

The venue contains 160,000 square feet of LEDs, which equate to four football fields, marking a cutting-edge immersive experience. The world’s largest spherical venue contains a 580,000 square foot fully-programmable LED exterior, containing 1.2 million LED pucks, spaced eight inches apart. Each puck contains 48 individual LEDs, with each diode capable of displaying 256 million different colors – creating a vivid new landmark on the Las Vegas skyline.

Last year, Dead & Company embarked on its Final Tour which it performed two sets of music drawing from the Grateful Dead’s historic catalog of songs.

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. Since its formation, the band has completed six tours, playing to 3.4 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Having toured consistently since its 2015 debut, the band has grossed $255.5 million and sold 2.8 million tickets across 149 reported shows.
