Collectible reissues due Aug 19th

RCA Records and Legacy Recordings will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the iconic romantic dance film, Dirty Dancing, with new collectible soundtrack reissues this summer. The first is an evocative color cassette edition of Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) pressed with a white shell and grape ink on Friday, August 19th.

The 35th anniversary cassette edition honors the Side A/Side B playing order of the original soundtrack album, showcasing 12 classic tracks the way they’re meant to be heard. The Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple hit singles, notably the iconic standard “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Later this summer, the Austin-based bespoke merch collective Mondo will release a limited edition 2 LP color vinyl collection featuring new pressings of Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) and More Dirty Dancing. Pre-Orders begin on MondoShop.Com on Wednesday, August 24th.

Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) was first released by RCA Records on July 18, 1987, spending more than four months or 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Packed with such unforgettable classics as “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” “Be My Baby” (The Ronettes), “Hungry Eyes” (Eric Carmen) and much more, the soundtrack became one of the best-selling albums of all-time, with worldwide sales topping 32 million copies. Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) has received the coveted RIAA Diamond Award with shipments of 14x platinum.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release a 35th anniversary 4K Blu-ray Steelbook edition of the iconic film on August 23rd. The two disc set will contain the film previously restored in 4K with Dolby Vision/HDR and Atmos audio, audio commentary, featurettes and more.

Dirty Dancing is a dramatic American dance film and classic romance, written by Eleanor Bergstein, produced by Linda Gottlieb, directed by Emile Ardolino, starring Patrick Swayze (as Johnny Castle) and Jennifer Grey (as Francis “Baby” Houseman) in the story of a young woman who falls in love with a dance instructor at a vacation resort. The film’s pro-choice storyline stoked controversy at the time of release and has only become more relevant in the intervening years. Premiering at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival, Dirty Dancing was released in the US on August 21, 1987 and went on to earn more than $214 million worldwide while becoming the first film to sell more than a million copies in the home video market.
