Album was delayed due to COVID-19

The Dixie Chicks have a new release date for its first album in 14 years, Gaslighter. The country trio consisting of Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire will release the project on July 17th, according to a social media post that features their younger selves superimposed onto pageant queen bodies with ribbons revealing the date.

The comeback album was set for release on May 1st via Sony Music Nashville, but was delayed due to COVID-19. On March 4th, the trio released the title track as the lead single with a PSA-style official video. On April 30th, they released “Julianna Calm Down,” an EDM-infused explicit track that encourages women to stay positive during a breakup.

The album is produced by Jack Antonoff and will be released on CD and LP. A neon magenta vinyl will be exclusive to Target. No track listing has been revealed as of press time.

Gaslighter is the trio’s first since 2006’s pop-leaning Taking The Long Way, which won five GRAMMY Awards including “Album of the Year,” “Record of the Year,” and “Song of the Year.” The album was released after they were blacklisted by the country music community for comments Maines’ made on stage in Europe. In 2003, Maines’ slammed then President George W Bush saying, “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”
