Dolly Parton’s Dollywood closes temporary due to flooding

The park is expected to reopen mid-day on July 29th

Heavy rain in Sevier County Tennessee has forced the temporary closure of Dolly Parton’s Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. On Sunday (July 28th), over four inches of rain fell in the area, causing McCarter Hollow Road at Dollywood’s entrance to collapse. A portion of the park and its parking lots have also flooded, forcing guests to wade through waist-high water.

“This afternoon, Sunday, July 28, a strong thunderstorm caused flash flooding at Dollywood. With the assistance of Pigeon Forge Police and Fire Departments, park personnel directed guests to safety during the storm. At this time, one minor injury has been reported,” the theme park shared late Sunday evening (July 28th).

“Dollywood is supporting guests whose vehicles were affected by this weather event, and cleanup crews have been deployed. The park currently is scheduled to open at noon on Monday, July 29. Park officials will continue to assess conditions and updates will be posted to our social media pages as additional information becomes available.”

More rain is in the forecast for the area on Monday (July 29th). According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN, new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms. The threat of rain continues all week.

A highly-awarded and widely-recognized leader in the amusement industry, The Dollywood Company consists of the 160-acre Dollywood theme park; the 35-acre Dollywood’s Splash Country; and Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa. As unique as its namesake and owner Dolly Parton, Dollywood is the 2010 Applause Award winner, the theme park industry’s highest accolade; winner of 45 Golden Ticket Awards; and recipient of 28 Brass Ring Awards for Live Entertainment, more than any other theme park in the world. The park is located near Great Smoky Mountains National Park and was named in 2022 by Trip Advisor as the top theme park in the country.

Dollywood is open mid-March through early January and offers rides and attractions, shows, and crafters authentic to the East Tennessee region. Dollywood’s Splash Country, recognized by the Travel Channel and Trip Advisor as one of the country’s most beautiful water parks, operates from mid-May to Labor Day. Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa provides guests with spectacular mountain views and family-friendly amenities next door to Dollywood theme park and Dollywood’s Splash Country.

Dollywood’s newest attraction, The Dolly Parton Experience, is now open. The area features several interactive elements, allowing guests to feel as if they were alongside Dolly as she journeyed from Locust Ridge to stages across the world.

In Songteller, guests explore Dolly’s life in lyrics, tracing her roots from Sevier County to the bus she boarded to Nashville the day after her high school graduation. At Behind the Seams, guests can peruse a curated selection of Dolly’s style through the years and learn about her team’s creative process. Dolly’s family and friends will continue to perform at Dreamsong in Heidi Parton’s Kin & Friends. In the theater queue, guests can discover the importance of Dolly’s faith, friends and family in the Precious Memories exhibit.
