Michael McDonald has become ill

The Doobie Brothers have postponed four upcoming shows on their 50th Anniversary Tour due a member of its touring personnel testing positive with COVID-19. The group shared the news via social media on Wednesday (Sept 1st), stating shows in Clarkston, MI; Burgettstown, PA; Toledo, OH; and Cincinnati, OH will be rescheduled with new dates coming soon.

Fans are encouraged to hold on to their tickets for the newly scheduled dates. The trek is set to return on September 9th in Cayuhoga Falls, OH.

The news follows one day after Michael McDonald, who reunited with Tom Johnston Pat Simmons and John Mcfee following their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2020, missed a show due to illness. The group hasn’t confirmed who contracted the virus, but McDonald wasn’t feeling well.

“He’s recuperating and isolating. We hope to have him back in a week or so,” co-founder Patrick Simmons tells the Star Tribune. “He’s had his vaccine. But the show must go on.”

The group will release its 15th full-length album, titled Liberté on October 1st via Island Records. Produced and co-written by John Shanks (Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus), the body of work contains 12 brand new tracks by Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee.
