Word of the postponement came one hour before the show was to start

Ed Sheeran postponed his Allegiant Stadium show in Las Vegas one hour before it was scheduled to start on Saturday (Sept 9th). The global pop star shared the news on Instagram, stating challenges with the load-in process are to blame.

“I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load-in of our Vegas show,” he writes. “It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it. The gig will be postponed to Saturday, October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date.”

Earlier in the day, the Allegiant Stadium X account had tweeted that the doors would open at 5:30 pm after being “significantly delayed.” That tweet has since been removed and replaced with the rescheduled show information.

8 News Now reports that multiple fans were treated for heat-related issues with at least one transported to a nearby hospital.

Many fans were upset by the news as one commented they had waited in the heat since 10 am with some people who had flown in from Germany to see the show.

“We have literally been sitting outside in this heat since 10 o’clock this morning. With us there were 35 people, some who had flown in from all over, including Germany. We were being told that we needed to wait a half hour more and then another half hour…there were people in the lines throwing up and passing out,” grandmakathy26 shared. “Then, due to so many getting ill in the heat and sun they let us in abruptly to the building, followed by a statement that we needed to be outside to get our armbands to go to the GA standing. So much poor communication. One minute they wanted us to form a single line, mind you hundreds of folks were pushing to get in as we were back in the sun. All of a sudden someone yelled it’s canceled. Everyone grabbed their phones, scrolling to find the post. After all these hours, our long car drive and a expensive hotel stay we now have to do it all over again? It’s just so unfortunate.”

Another said they rescheduled their own wedding to attend Sheeran’s show.

“I rescheduled my own wedding for this event!!!!!!” leahkeoghhh shared. “I love you Ed but I lost thousands of $$$ on deposits 😰 I guess we will be back in October. As long as you don’t cancel again. God bless.”

Other fans defended Sheeran, stating it’s not his fault.

“[Y]ou take the risk when buying the ticket (thanks for the reminder people who are sitting comfortably in their homes) but you don’t expect it to happen, especially if you’re walking over or already at the stadium,” ohhowlovelyy adds. “You’re allowed to be upset, ( I personally cried myself) but to blame Ed, especially on his social media page, or be rude is not acceptable. Take a breather before you act out or maybe don’t comment at all. If you can’t say something nice…”

Sheeran is currently on the North American leg of his Mathematics Tour which was initially scheduled to wrap September 23rd in Los Angeles. The Las Vegas show will be the finale before he treks back across the pond for two shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in November.

Sheeran will release Autumn Variations, his second album of 2023, on September 29th via Atlantic Records. The project will be produced by Aaron Dessner, who also produced Subtract, which dropped in May 2023. The 14 song album will be available on CD, LP, and several limited edition vinyl variations, including a harvest orange vinyl and limited edition first pressing white vinyl. A Sticker Sheet Vinyl will be released with an exclusive design and blank outer sleeve to allow fans to create their own cover collage with two enclosed sticker sheets.
