The band chats about their newfound success
Cemented as the hottest rock band in Los Angeles, The Scarlet Opera is lighting up stages and screens everywhere with their “unashamedly queer” brand of music and entertainment. In the past month, the group released its major label debut EP, Comedy, via SB Projects/Republic Records, made their late night TV appearance in March, and wrapped their first-ever headlining tour with a hometown stop that sold out in record time.
The group formed in 2016 as Perta, but rebranded themselves as The Scarlet Opera in 2022. The same year, they signed with Republic Records and released their debut single, “The Place To Be.”
Frontman Luka Bazulka, keyboardist Colin Kendrick, bassist Daniel Zuker, drummer Justin Siegal, and guitarist Chance Taylor join us via Zoom from their LA-area rehearsal space a week after their tour wrapped. We chat about their newfound success, their history and what’s ahead. Our own Matt Bailey has a personal connection to Bazulka as they attended the same art school together in Pennsylvania.
