The Gather Again Tour continues through May 20th

Eric Church has canceled his April 2nd concert at San Antonio’s AT&T Center on his Gather Again Tour to attend an NCAA Final Four basketball game with his family. An email was sent to ticket holders earlier today (Tues, Mar 29th), asking fans to understand his decision.

“This Saturday, my family and I are going to stand together to cheer on the Tar Heels as the team has made it to the Final Four,” the note says.

“As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I’ve watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years but to have them matchup in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast’s dream.

“This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community. However, it’s that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance.

“Woody Durham always said, ‘Go where you go and do what you do,’ thanks for letting me go here and be with the Tar Heels.”

Refunds will be issued from their original point of purchase.

Fans have shared mixed feelings about the situation. Some are more understanding than others.

“He showed up alone in Pittsburgh when his band was sick, he is in two cities every weekend putting on more shows than any other artist, he went above and beyond preparing to get back on the road after the pandemic the second that it made sense, he sacrifices family time and his family often sacrifices a lot to travel all over the country with him, he performs for 3 hours straight with no opening act, he gets right out in the middle of his audience shaking hands, hugging and being as real as it gets, he remembers so many of his fans and has always made his fans the priority! I get why folks are disappointed and upset if they lost money but he will somehow make it up to you. Good for him for making a hard decision and being honest about it! Go Tar Heels!!” one fan shares.

“Unfreaking believable! Choir tickets to Houston & San Antonio and both cancelled! Guess no one cares about flights, hotels and other expenses people are out! So many reasons this is wrong. Very disappointed; especially if there’s not an extremely important reason. (Never heard why Houston was cancelled). And before everyone says how important the NC basketball game is…he completely cancelled, he did not reschedule. Seems like a difference to me,” another fan writes.

“We would’ve been really heartbroken if this happened to us. But I do agree, he’s a human, with dreams and things important to him outside of us. He puts his fans first so much. I hope his fans can forgive him,” another shares.

Another is supportive of his family time. “Hear me out here: I get that people are mad. Don’t be. Why? The guy just wants to live in the moment with his family. If he can’t do that, is it better that he just retired so he can. Absolutely not (EC, please don’t do that to us). Haven’t we all skipped out on work for a day to do something else??? He hasn’t given up on us or forgotten us. Give him a break here. I applaud his decision.”

“holy fuck, what a douchebag move by Eric Church. Dude cancelled his show Saturday so he can go to the UNC/Duke game. People likely had flights, hotels, and whatever else that isn’t refundable booked. Really hoping he sees half empty venues from here on out. #Douchebag,” one Twitter user shares.

Another fan had some not so nice words to say about Church. “Eric Church is cancelling a concert so he can watch a basketball game. Thousands of people made plans to see his 4/2 show. Many artists play through injuries and miss important life events for their fans. Not Church. He really might be the biggest douche bag in America.”
