K-pop group continues to break global records

History-making girl group Fifty Fifty continues to break records with its viral single, “Cupid.” The track has become the longest charting song by a female K-pop act on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, breaking Blackpink’s record in 2020 with “Ice Cream” featuring Selena Gomez.

“Cupid” is spending its ninth week on the chart and third within the top 20. It lands at No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 17.

The song has achieved more than 1.4 billion global streams to date with 207 million (one million equivalents) in the US alone.

“Cupid” has landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, excluding US, which ranks songs in over 200 territories around the world, excluding the United States, based on streaming and sales. However, on the Global 200, which includes the United States, the song sits at No. 2.

“Cupid” is also the top track on TikTok US Top Tracks and the No. 1 Used Song on Instagram Reels, both for the week ending May 15th.

The song currently sits at No. 27 on the US top 40 radio charts and No. 40 on the American hot 40 AC radio charts.

In April, it was announced that the girl group signed a partnership with Warner Records in the US after making their Billboard Hot 100 debut with the song in March. They are the sixth-ever K-pop group to enter the chart, following Wonder Girls, BTS, Blackpink, Twice and NewJeans.

The song will be released as The Beginning: Cupid in physical form on June 9th via Warner Records containing the Twin version with Korean lyrics and an instrumental version. The sets contain a photo book, photo cards, poster and more and acts a prequel to the their debut EP, The Fifty, which was released in November 2022.

Fifty Fifty consists of four visionary artists and performers, Saena, Sio, Aran, and Keena. Their name has two meanings, the first combine themselves and their fans, the first “50” or “half” represents their fans, and the other “half” represents themselves, combining those two makes 100 or a “whole.” The second meaning is “dream world” vs. reality, with “50” representing each respective “half,” and this is meant to express the concept of their travels in between the real world full of challenges and an ideal world that’s filled with nothing but love, friendship, and happiness.

With their music and concept, the foursome seeks to share their journey with their fans and share their personal stories through a wide spectrum of music.
