INXS’s ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ featured in ‘Toy Story 5’ trailer

The film opens next summer

INXS’ iconic heartfelt power ballad, “Never Tear Us Apart,” off their multi-platinum 1987 release, Kick, invites audiences into the next storyline of the Toy Story universe. Frontman Michael Hutchence and guitarist Andrew Farris wrote the bluesy 6/8 ballad.

“Never Tear Us Apart” was a major international hit for INXS, helping to cement their global superstar status. The track peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the fourth consecutive Top 10 hit from the album. It also reached No. 5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. It peaked at No. 2 on the Canadian Top Singles chart while reaching Top 10 status in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The single has been certified seven times platinum in Australia and platinum in the UK, reflecting massive sales and streaming figures over time.

The famous music video, directed by Richard Lowenstein, was filmed in the picturesque, old city of Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), which adds a romantic and melancholic atmosphere to the song.

Following Michael Hutchence’s death in 1997, the song gained a profound significance when it was played as his coffin was carried out of St Andrew’s Cathedral, making it a powerful anthem of his life and legacy for many fans.

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is set to be released in theaters on June 19, 2026. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks reprise their roles as Buzz Lightyear and Woody, respectively, for a storyline that will reportedly center on the toys facing an “all-new threat to playtime” that comes in the form of high-tech devices.

The film is directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, who also co-wrote the first four films in the franchise.
