Joan Jett endorses Kamala Harris for President in new video

The “If You’re Blue” video is available now

Legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Joan Jett & The Blackhearts have released a new music video for their hard-hitting single “If You’re Blue.” The video’s sentiment serves as a strong endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. Originally released as the lead single off their 2022 EP Mindsets, the song is a timely and rallying political anthem showcasing the band’s guitar-driven sound and Jett’s powerful vocals.

The video, directed by Kevin Kerslake (who has worked with artists such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Green Day and more) arrives at a critical time in today’s political climate. Americans from all ages and walks of life are featured alongside symbolic imagery and statements of freedom, opportunity, compassion, and quotes from Vice President Harris to drive home a message. The strong statement makes Jett’s position clear, “VOTE BLUE.”

“I have been following presidential elections since learning about civics in junior high school,” says Jett. “Every presidential election season, I’ve urged people to register and vote. Since 2000, I’ve felt the issues we face become increasingly consequential to our very core as Americans, and with each election, it is more urgent that we adopt policies that will keep America strong. More than ever, we need politicians who can implement massive positive change for our nation. We have come to that point where we’re not just voting for our party or a candidate, but on whether our democracy survives. And make no mistake! Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will guide us to a more positive future. A future we MUST look to for ourselves, our children, our country and our planet. So I’m asking you to please, register and vote Kamala Harris/ Tim Walz and blue up and down the ballot to get something GOOD done in Washington DC. For the GOOD OF THE COUNTRY, VOTE BLUE.”

Mindsets is a perfect blend of punk and rock n’ roll that feels timeless and immediate at once, serving as a reminder of what Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are all about. Each of the six new tracks on the EP features their spin on the band’s signature tight instrumentation and heavy guitar riffs, effortlessly pairing with Jett’s vocals that remain full of attitude and urgency. Both a voice and force to be reckoned with, Jett continues to deliver a sound of conviction and energy.
