Star-studded doc tells story of Man in Black

Fathom Events has teamed with Kingdom Story Company for an upcoming documentary, Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon. Fathom CEO Ray Nutt shared the news and the film’s trailer during a welcome speech to a packed room at the Filmmakers Luncheon at CinemaCon 2022.

By the time Johnny Cash released the iconic Man in Black album in 1971, the country superstar was broken down, hollow-eyed, and wrung out – torn between Jesus and the “Cocaine Blues.” The film tells a heart-wrenching tale of fame, trials, and redemption, diving deep into the singer’s inner demons, triumphs, and gradual return to an “unshakeable faith.”

Produced by The Erwin Brothers (I Can Only Imagine, American Underdog), Directed by Ben Smallbone, and Executive Produced by Robert Deaton (“CMA Awards”), Josh Matas and Jason Owen (Sandbox Entertainment), Greg Laurie (Harvest Ministries) and John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon features interviews with over a dozen stars, including Tim McGraw, Jimmie Allen, Alice Cooper, and Sheryl Crow.

The film will premiere in theaters across the United States this fall. Tickets are expected to be available starting June 24th via Fathom Events.
