The set features 20 songs
Latin American superstar Juan Gabriel returns with his new posthumous album Eterno, a collection of 20 tracks featuring classics from the Divo de Juárez and never-before-heard gems from his repertoire. The album is available on all digital platforms now followed by the CD and 2 LP on September 12th through Virgin Music Group.
Eterno features a selection of the most iconic songs from the Divo de Juárez, performed in mariachi —a genre he made his own throughout his career, celebrating not only his artistic legacy but also his exquisite songwriting that made him one of the greatest composers in Spanish-language music.
“He wanted to record with mariachi because he loved mariachi so much. He had a saying: Everything revolves around a mariachi. That’s why he always recorded a version so that a mariachi album could be made. He wanted to do it after the Dúos, but it was no longer possible,” shares Iván Aguilera, Juan Gabriel’s son and executor of his estate.
Among the standout tracks is “Enamorado y Feliz,” the lead single from the album, a ranchera that showcases Juan Gabriel narrating the emotions behind a blind and overwhelming love.
“For seven years, I was Juan Gabriel’s personal engineer and recorded most of these vocals. The recordings are completely authentic, without any artificial manipulation,” shares Guillermo Hernández Galicia, Eterno’s producer.
“Juan Gabriel used to tell me: ‘Save these things, someday they might be needed.’ It took seven months of intensive work to honor Juan Gabriel’s legacy [in this album]. Each arrangement was carefully crafted while respecting his musical vision and following the advice he gave me during all those years we worked together.”
“Enamorado y Feliz,” along with the other 19 songs that make up Eterno, features previously unreleased vocal recordings by the Divo de Juárez, made shortly before his death, alongside completely new arrangements created and produced by Guillermo Hernández Galicia, Juan Gabriel’s musical director, coordinator, and mariachi director for 23 years.
Eterno is more than a posthumous album: it’s an intimate connection to the composer’s heart, a conversation between Juan Gabriel and each facet of himself as a prolific creator. This collector’s item gives fans a rare chance to connect with Juan Gabriel’s creative genius through never-before-heard interpretations.
In this musical treasure, followers will discover new versions of iconic tracks like “No Tengo Dinero,” “Te Lo Pido Por Favor,” “La Diferencia,” and “Yo No Sé Qué Me Pasó,” as well as precious gems from his catalog such as “Las Cartas de Alberto.”
“Continuing the legacy means ensuring that the public keeps listening to everything my father left behind during his lifetime—not just what had already been heard, but everything else he didn’t get to release. It’s hard work, especially maintaining the way he envisioned releasing these projects, but in the end, when we listen to the songs, it allows us to feel like he’s still there in the studio with us,” Aguilera adds.
Since June, Eterno has offered glimpses of its musical richness through the release of three singles, confirming the magnitude of this posthumous treasure. Beginning with “Me Nace del Corazón,” the track marked a historic moment as Juan Gabriel’s first studio interpretation of this composition, which he had created for Rocío Dúrcal in the 1970s, recorded shortly before his passing in August 2016.
This was followed by “Nunca Había Amado Así,” one of the most treasured and anticipated gems from the iconic performer’s repertoire—known by fans as one of the prolific artist’s hidden songs, a bolero now presented as a mariachi version with unreleased vocals—and “Nunca Es Tarde,” written by Don Alberto Aguilera Valadez for Rocío Dúrcal in 1978. The release marked the triumphant return of this classic ranchera nearly five decades after its original release on Rocío Dúrcal Canta A Juan Gabriel Vol. 2.
Nine years after his passing, Juan Gabriel remains more present than ever: ten million followers and 11.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 7.1 million subscribers on YouTube, and over 8.7 billion views confirm that his voice is indeed eternal. Additionally, the Divo de Juárez will return to screens through Netflix with the documentary Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will on October 30th. The production features the performer’s personal archives, recorded by himself, offering an unprecedented glimpse into his life and career.
Juan Gabriel is one of the most recognized and acclaimed Mexican singers in the history of Spanish-language music. Throughout his stellar 46-year career, the Divo de Juárez released 48 albums and sold over 100 million records worldwide, establishing himself as the artist who brought Mexican music to every corner of the planet.
His musical legacy includes milestones such as Mis 40 En Bellas Artes, the iconic concert recorded at Mexico’s premier cultural venue, which, in 2024, during its tenth anniversary, drew 70,000 people to the capital city’s Zócalo. Additionally, with the theatrical release this June 2025, Juan Gabriel made history in Mexico by having the most-watched concert by a Mexican artist and the fourth most-watched concert film in Mexican cinema history, according to data provided by Cinemex.
