More than 1.4 million fans react to TikTok tease

One of CMT’s 2022 Next Women of Country, Julia Cole, has rush-released “Thank God We Broke Up” after her TikTok tease of the new song racked up 1.4 million views. With 67 million and counting cumulative streams, the amazing viral build behind Cole signals that a new star, with Houston-bred rhythm-&-attitude, is on the rise.

In early April, Cole’s “Thank God We Broke Up” tease on TikTok set off an avalanche of often-hilarious comments demanding the completed song, ASAP. Since the song’s release and video debut on YouTube, The #ColeTeam has rallied to make it another viral hit for this breaking country artist.

It seems lyrics like “Thank God we broke up, ’cause you wouldn’t grow up, drink so much you’d throw up, and leave me at the party” resonate with more than a few folks who’ve dodged a bad relationship bullet.

As Cole says with a laugh, “Nothing is as motivating as ‘threats’ like, ‘I’m getting back with my ex if you don’t release this song right now!’ I thought ‘this is awesome… I have to finish writing this song ASAP for the #COLETEAM so they don’t get back with their toxic exes!”

In its first weekend of release the song garnered well over 200K streams, added to Spotify’s “Next From Nashville” and “New Music Nashville” playlists, and Apple Music’s “Apple’s Country Risers,” “Little Bit Country,” and “New In Country” playlists.

After getting her start in music performing the National Anthem before her own high school volleyball games, Julie Cole was soon playing NFL, MLB, MLS, NASCAR, INDYCAR, and ESPN events. Now in Nashville, she is a popular songwriter and recording artist whose duet with Alexandra Kay, “Best Worst Ex” racked up over two million streams on DSPs in under a month and is currently playing on SiriusXM’s The Highway. Her viral single “Side Piece” racked up over 19.5 million views on TikTok and streaming platforms. Cole, who is the only music ambassador for Mizuno Athletic Wear, has fundraised thousands to support women’s youth athletics. On the road, she has opened for Dan + Shay, Dierks Bentley, Kane Brown, Carrie Underwood, Jon Pardi, Kenny Chesney, Riley Green, Niko Moon and others in over 12 countries.

We chatted with Cole on the 2022 CMT Music Awards Red Carpet last week.
