Keith Urban surprised fans with free Buc’ee’s concert

The show was performed in the famous store’s parking lot

Over the weekend, Keith Urban surprised fans with a free concert in the parking lot of Buc’ee’s located in Athens, Alabama. Thousands of fans, some estimates have the crowd size as more than 6,000 attendees, swarmed the popular store/gas station.

“I came down to this Buc’ee’s about a month ago, and when I left, I went, ‘It’d be kind of fun to do a show there,”Keith told the audience. “I swear to you, I thought maybe 100, 200 people.”

Keith made time before the show to work behind the food counter, complete with full Buc-ee’s attire, wearing a T-shirt, apron and requisite cowboy hat to chop brisket and yelling, “Fresh Brisket on the board!”

Urban has released the official music video for his duet with Lainey Wilson, “Go Home W U,” from his upcoming album, High. The two weren’t able to get their schedules to align to film the video, so they got creative and came up with a very compelling and wonderful alternative.

“We had to make lemonade out of a situation where we couldn’t get my schedule and Lainey’s to line up so that we could film just a day,” Urban says. “I went, ‘Oh man, months are gonna roll by and we won’t have a video done.’ So, I knew we were gonna get to perform it at the CMA Fest, so I said to my director, ‘What about we film us at the CMAs (Fest) and use some of that footage in the video. We’ll figure that out.’ And then I hit upon the idea of having some TVs in the bar, I would be singing in the bar as the solo musician in the bar, and then the camera would cross occasionally to the television sets and there’s Lainey performing on TV. And then I’m up there on the little stage and then somehow I’m going to end up getting inside the TV to perform with Lainey Wilson. And then so, we hit upon the idea of getting some sort of freakish, static shock that comes through the television when I’m adjusting it. And then I just disappear off the stage and then the next minute I miraculously appear in the television set with Lainey Wilson on stage singing the song. We made the most of it. We made a story out of it, instead of like the gratuitous shoving her over there and I’m there, and that’s all there is to it. I wanted to see us actually perform together.”

”Go Home W U,” and his current single “Messed Up As Me,” are from Keith’s upcoming album, High, which drops September 20th via UMG Nashville.

Urban will perform live on September 13th on NBC’sToday Show as part of their Citi Concert Series.
