Singer returns to country

Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry has signed a solo record deal with Records Nashville/Columbia Records. Perry shared the news in an Instagram post on Monday (Apr 3rd), stating she’s happy with the new endeavor.

“Today I want to share the good news with you that I, at long last, have found my label home with Records Nashville! A good home nurtures you, comforts you, and helps you grow by challenging your ideas while still supporting your dreams. That’s what Records Nashville is for me and my solo voice. I feel so seen – finally,” she shares. “I love you all! Can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve been feeling, and learning, and experiencing. Maybe we can all sing about it together soon?”

With the signing, Perry returns to country music, where she started with her brothers Reid and Neil as The Band Perry in 2009.

“We’re so excited at Records Nashville to welcome Kimberly Perry as a solo artist with her return to country music,” adds Records Nashville founder and CEO Barry Weiss.

Perry reflects on the past several years which shifted her back to country music.

“These last couple of years have been a wild and wonderful season of change for me. I met Johnny Costello in Dallas and married him at midnight in Vegas. Eight months later, I fulfilled my dream since I was eight years old of moving to Nashville, I cut some apron strings and started writing songs with the town’s (and the world’s) greatest writers as a solo artist for the first time in my life. I’ve reconnected with myself and my creative center – it’s all been so beautiful,” she writes.

The news comes a week after The Band Perry announced they were taking a break to pursue “individual creative pursuits.”

The sibling trio started out as a country hitmaking group after signing with Big Machine Label Group/Republic Nashville in 2009. They released two albums with the labels that include a string of hits that started with “Hip to My Heart” in 2010. In 2015, the group began transitioning to pop and recorded a third album, Heart+Beat, that was set to feature a variety of producers including RedOne and Diplo, but was never released. They’re last single with Big Machine/Republic was in 2015 with “Live Forever” before they signed with Interscope, leaving a second unreleased album — My Bad Imagination — on the table.

Several failed singles followed before they issued their last project, Coordinates EP, in 2018 that was produced by Rick Rubin and released on their own Artrat label.

The trio’s last batch of music came in 2019 when they released “The Good Life” and “Nite Swim.”
