Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’ certified diamond

The certification falls on the fifth anniversary of the song’s release

Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldiโ€™s breakthrough single, โ€œSomeone You Loved,โ€ has been certified RIAA diamond. The achievement, which recognizes 10 million sales and streaming equivalent earned in the US alone, coincides with the fifth anniversary of the chart-topping singleโ€™s release.

โ€œSomeone You Lovedโ€ was nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and was named Song of the Year at the 2020 BRIT Awards. The track spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven weeks atop the Official UK Singles chart. โ€œSomeone You Lovedโ€ โ€“ which ranks as the most-streamed song of all time in the UK โ€“ has amassed over 16 billion combined global streams, achieving platinum status or greater in 19 countries. Combined views of the accompanying videos have surpassed one billion.

“I couldnโ€™t be more thrilled for Lewis that ‘Someone You Loved’ has earned such a rare diamond distinction,” shares Capitol Music Group Chair & CEO Michelle Jubelirer. “The song is a classicโ€”transcending any particular genre or moment in musicโ€”and one that will surely continue to resonate deeply with people the world over for countless years to come.”

The song appeared on Capaldiโ€™s blockbuster debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. The best-selling album in the UK for two consecutive years โ€“ 2019 and 2020 โ€“ it also contained such hits as โ€œBefore You Goโ€ and โ€œBruises.โ€ His follow-up album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, was released earlier this year.
