Presley died following cardiac arrest
Lisa Marie Presley, singer, songwriter and only daughter of rock icon Elvis Presley, has died at the age of 54. Presley died Thursday (Jan 12th) after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital following cardiac arrest earlier in the day.
Her mother, Priscilla Presley, released the following statement to the press.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Presley said following her daughter’s passing. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. “We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Presley’s Calabasas residence Thursday morning after her housekeeper found her unresponsive. Danny Keough, her ex-husband, was in the house and performed CPR until paramedics arrived and administered resuscitation her. EMTs were able to retrieve a pulse before transporting her to the hospital where she remained in ICU until her passing.
Lisa Marie and Priscilla attended the Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday (Jan 10th) in Beverly Hills where they saw Austin Butler win a trophy for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis.
Presley launched her own rock career in 2003 with the release of To Whom It May Concern, followed by 2005’s Now What in 2005 and 2012’s Storm & Grace. Her debut album featured Billy Corgan, Matt Chamberlain and others, and was certified Gold by the RIAA, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
She also released several posthumous duets with her father, including “Don’t Cry Daddy,” “In The Ghetto,” and “Where No One Stands Alone.”
Lisa Marie made her Grand Ole Opry debut in 2012 in support of her third and final album.
Her father passed away at the age of 42 in 1977, leaving her the sole heir to his estate.
Besides her mother, Presley is survived by her daughters Riley, Harper and Finley.
