Film presented as weeklong immersive experience

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s final concert with founding member Gary Rossington is coming to cinemas in July. Unbranded Events presents The 50th Anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd, bringing the iconic southern rock band’s electrifying performance to fans in a unique and immersive way through a limited week-long run at drive-ins, indoor theaters and outdoor venues around the world.

The exclusive concert film event will premier in July and will pay tribute to Rossington, the band’s original guitarist with this memorable, never-before-seen show. The performance — recorded at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on November 13, 2022 — showcases Lynyrd Skynyrd at their absolute best, delivering an unforgettable rock and roll experience.

“We are excited to share this special night and celebrate 50 Years of Skynyrd music with the Skynyrd Nation and fans of these timeless songs,” frontman Johnny Van Zant says about the project. “We were fortunate to capture this special evening with Gary Rossington and Dale Krantz Rossington and all of the special guests that were able to join us on stage. It is certainly bittersweet because this was Gary’s last show, but we are so fortunate that we were able to share one last special night together onstage, doing what Gary loved.”

The concert will also air on PBS in August. The CMT Music Awards presented an all-star tribute live on CBS from Austin’s Moody Center on April 2nd, honoring Rossington featuring Billy Gibbons, Chuck Leavell, Cody Johnson, Paul Rodgers, Slash, and Warren Haynes with LeAnn Rimes and Wynonna Judd joining as The Honkettes. Recently, Lynyrd Skynyrd was honored by Spotify for reaching the milestone achievement of one billion streams for their iconic classic “Sweet Home Alabama.”

In March, Rossington has died at the age of 71. The current members, led by Johnny Van Zant, the singer for the past 36 years, were unsure if they would continue following Gary’s untimely passing. After much discussion with the band, the families of Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, and Dale Rossington, have collectively reached unified support, and feel that continuing to perform live, and keeping the music alive, is in the best interest of the fans and everyone involved.
