Chesnutt is canceling additional shows to focus on recovering

Earlier this month, we reported that 90s country star Mark Chesnutt was admitted to an East Tennessee hospital in critical condition. It’s still unclear what those health issues are, but today (Tues, Nov 14th), Chesnutt shared a social media message to fans, stating “the fight is over” as he focuses on his recovery.

“Many of you who know me well, know that I have been struggling with a battle that I’ve fought to overcome for many years on my own. Now after some extreme health issues I’ve recently experienced the time has come. The fight is over,” he writes. “I’ve made the decision, to take the time to get healthy.”

Chesnutt has two shows on the calendar for the rest of the year, including one in Las Vegas during National Finals Rodeo, but says he’ll be canceling those with a plan to return in February.

“I’ll be coming off the road for the next couple of months to concentrate on getting well…..to take care of me, my family and so that I can get back out on the road, to give back to ALL of you who have shown me unconditional support, care and love throughout my entire career,” he continues. “I truly appreciate your heartfelt understanding in my commitment, and your sensitivity to my decision, and the privacy to allow me this time. I’ll see you when I return to the road in February. Be good to one another.”

On November 2nd, his team posted a message on social media that was quickly removed. The message stated, “Mark and his management team regret we have had to cancel two shows this week. Mark was admitted to the hospital Wednesday evening and is now in the Critical Care Unit in stable condition. He is receiving care and undergoing multiple tests to identify the cause of his medical issues. We would like to apologize to our fans that have always been so very supportive and hope you will keep Mark in your prayers. We will post more updates once the doctors determine his condition.”

A day later, his team shared, “Mark Chesnutt is currently undergoing a medical evaluation after being admitted to a local hospital on Wednesday, November 1st. Mark and Tracy appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. Mark is looking forward to seeing everyone soon.”

This is the second hospitalization this year for the 60-year-old “Goin’ Through The Big D” singer who canceled three shows in February for an unspecified illness. In 2021, he was forced off the road until summer 2022 due to emergency back surgery.

As one of the 90s country’s most-played artists, Chesnutt has earned 23 top 10 hits with 14 hitting No. 1. He’s sold more than 12 million albums and was awarded the CMA Horizon Award (now known as Best New Artist) and Vocal Event of the Year in 1993 for “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” with George Jones, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Joe Diffie and other country stars at the time.
