Megan Moroney brings ‘Am I Okay?’ to LA

The country star sold out two nights at The Greek Theater

In the last two years, Megan Moroney has skyrocketed from newcomer to superstar. Last night (Fri, Oct 3rd), the Georgia native performed the second of two nights at the Greek Theater, which saw ten thousand patrons pack the stands for each show. A second had to be added after fan demand, further cementing her place in country music.

During the Friday night show, Moroney thanked fans for her meteoric rise as she reflected on playing the 500-capacity Troubadour last time she was in town. That was during her headlining Lucky Tour in October 2023. This time, the Georgia native went bigger with a venue that is tucked so high into the woods of Los Angeles, there is one way in and out!

Dressed in blue sequins, Moroney started the night with my new favorite, “Man on the Moon.” She continued the Am I Okay? era with “Indifferent” and “I Know You.” The sultry vocalist sang 26 songs, capping the night with the tour and album’s namesake, “Am I Okay?” During a ballad section, Megan sang a portion of her version of Brooks & Dunn’s “Ain’t Nothing About You” before introducing the band. She got me on a fake-out as I thought she was going to introduce B&D, or Ronnie Dunn, more specifically, to sing the remainder of the song.

Her staging is her largest yet, with two stairwells and a heart-shaped bench. Moroney leans into the color scheme of the album, with a blue sequined Gibson acoustic guitar and blue sequined microphone and stand. After all, blue is her favorite color.

Megan is a strong contender for Entertainer of the Year. She not only plays well with her band, but she also has a powerful stage presence and often interacts with the crowd. In a particularly heartfelt moment, she encouraged everyone to follow their dreams, sharing that she nearly didn’t follow her own.

The highlight of the night came during her performance of “Miss Universe.” Halfway through the song, she brought a young girl named Wyatt on stage. She presented Wyatt with a bouquet of blue flowers, posed for photos, and encouraged her to always follow her dreams.

The first night, she performed an unreleased song called “Beautiful Things” in place of “Georgia Girl.” She mixed it up during night two and added “Georgia Girl” back, which gained some of the biggest cheers of the night. Of course, “Tennessee Orange” was toward the end, sparking an even bigger audience reaction.

Megan has a passionate fan base that is similar to Taylor Swift‘s. The fans know every word to each song, often drowning out the artist. It’s a very cool phenomenon that will see Megan headline stadiums one day!

There are a few shows left on this run. The trek wraps in Tampa on October 18th before she heads Down Under for three festival shows in Australia.
