Martinez directed, conceived & designed costumes for clip

Ahead of the March 31st release of upcoming album Portals, multi-Platinum 12 billion-streaming artist Melanie Martinez reemerged with new song “Death.” The track, which furthers the multilayered story of her alter-ego “Cry Baby,” is now joined by a captivating official music video with visuals and a narrative grand enough for the big screen. The cinematic music video, directed, conceived, and costume designed by Melanie Martinez herself, is now available.

The song was first teased with a series of otherworldly clips revealing the rebirth of fan-favorite character “Cry Baby,” quickly sparking a frenzy of theories from fans and garnering over 115 million views across socials. “Death” is the 13-track Portals album opener. Further teasing has been led by top fan pages around the world receiving a white chocolate “egg” in the mail to hatch, each containing a separate flash drive with an untitled audio snippet of a Portals track. Global Portals listening events also took place March 23rd, offering fans the opportunity to hear the entire album in full ahead of its release.

Hugely anticipated festival appearances at Lollapalooza Argentina on March 18th, Lollapalooza Chile on March 19th, and Bogota, Columbia’s Estéreo Picnic on March 23rd saw Melanie Martinez performing as the new creature and debuting upcoming music for the very first time. Martinez will also perform at Lollapalooza Brazil on March 25, with a wide-ranging international live schedule to be announced soon.
