Metallica rumored to play Sphere Las Vegas residency

The group would be the first heavy rock act to perform at the famous venue

There are reports that Metallica is close to or has already “inked a deal” for a Sphere residency in Las Vegas. Vital Vegas shares that the heavy metal group “could play Sphere in the fall of 2026,” pending an official announcement.

A potential residency in late 2026 aligns after the band’s scheduled M72 World Tour dates conclude with a second European run in July 2026.

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has openly expressed the band’s desire to perform at The Sphere, praising its innovative technology and the “crazy experience” it offers.

If confirmed, Metallica would join a growing list of popular artists, such as U2, Phish, Dead & Company, Anyma, Eagles, Kenny Chesney, Backstreet Boys, and Zac Brown Band to perform at the $2.3 billion venue.

U2 opened the groundbreaking, state-of-the-art entertainment venue in September 2023 with a 40-show run. The 17 thousand-seat venue is designed to provide a fully immersive sensory experience for audiences inside and out, which has paved the way for films, such as Postcards From Earth, U2: An Immersive Concert Film, and the upcoming Wizard of Oz showings.

The exterior, called the Exosphere, is covered in a massive, fully programmable 580,000-square-foot LED screen, making it the world’s largest spherical structure and a highly visible landmark in Las Vegas, sitting behind the Venetian Resort and Casino. It can display stunning, dynamic visuals that can be seen from miles away.

Inside, the venue boasts a 160,000-square-foot LED display with an astonishing 16K by 16K resolution. This massive wraparound screen extends over and behind the audience, creating an unparalleled visual environment. The arena is engulfed with Sphere Immersive Sound, an advanced audio system that uses beam-forming technology to deliver crystal-clear audio to every seat in the house. It can even direct different sounds to different locations within the venue, allowing for multi-language presentations or unique auditory effects.

The Sphere incorporates haptic seats and environmental sensations like wind, scent, and temperature changes to further enhance the immersive experience, making you feel truly part of the show. The Sphere Experience often includes interactions with AI-powered humanoid robots in the atrium, showcasing the venue’s technological capabilities.

We’ll provide official details, should they become available.
