Green is currently receiving treatment

Modest Mouse co-founder and drummer Jeremiah Green has been diagnosed with cancer. The band shared the news on Instagram Tuesday (Dec 27th) night.

“Some of you may have already heard, but I figured it would be good to hear the news directly from our camp,” frontman Isaac Brock shares on the band’s account. “Jeremiah was diagnosed with cancer a short while ago, and he’s currently in treatment. It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference. Jeremiah, as am I, are believers in the power of positive energy, so if you would be so kind as to send “good vibes” (to quote Jeremiah) in the direction of Jeremiah and his family, that’d be great.”

Green’s mother, Carol Namatame, initially shared the news in a Facebook post on Christmas Day.

“Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He’s is so strong and so brave and hanging in there!” she writes.

Green co-founded the band in 1992 with Brock and former bassist Eric Judy. He left briefly in 2003 but returned in 2004 where he remains. The band released its seventh studio album, The Golden Casket, in June 2021, which marked their first in six years. The Golden Casket heralds another new chapter in the band’s unpredictable evolution. Tracks hover in the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science, exploring themes ranging from the degradation of our psychic landscapes and invisible technology, to fatherhood.
