Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil reveals he suffered a stroke

The band kicks off its third Las Vegas residency tonight

Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil reveals he suffered a stroke last Christmas that caused the band to delay their new Las Vegas residency. The rocker revealed the news in an interview with The Las Vegas Review Journal, ahead of tonight’s (Fri, Sept 12th) kick-off at Park MGM.

“I had a stroke. My whole left side went out,” he says. “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough. The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.'”

Neil revealed that the band canceled the first part of the residency so he could undergo a “required medical procedure.” The rocker says he underwent physical therapy for months at his Nashville home, where he learned to regain his strength.

“I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair,” Neil says. “I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”

Neil returned to the stage in August with his solo band, with many fans noticing his sluggish appearance in videos. The performance was Neil’s first since last October, when he and Motley headlined Aftershock in Sacramento.

“It’s been tough, but I’m back, I’m 90-, 95-percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great,” Neil adds.

The ten-run residency was moved to the fall, with the group headlining Park MGM through October 3rd. Off the heels of the historic Höllywood Takeöver club shows at the iconic Whisky A Go Go, Roxy, and Troubadour in Los Angeles last fall, the Crüe is excited to bring an unforgettable night and inimitable new show with many surprises to fans for the residency — From The Sunset Strip, To The Las Vegas Strip. The legendary band that pioneered the Las Vegas rock residency over a decade ago is excited to return to the city following their two previous sold-out runs: Mötley Crüe Takes On Sin City in 2012 and Evening In Hell in 2013.

The band released its new career-spanning collection today. From The Beginning features four decades of iconic anthems, including a duet version of “Home Sweet Home” with Dolly Parton, which recently topped the radio charts.
