Collection arrives on Christmas Day

Neil Young surprised subscribers of his Neil Young Archives with a Christmas release of a “lost” album from 1987. Summer Songs features eight tracks recorded at his Broken Arrow Ranch studio during the period that Farm Aid and the Bridge School Concerts were born.

“This special NYA gift of music – Summer Songs is for all NYA members,” he writes. “We really appreciate your involvement in our endeavor here, preserving a lifetime of music in its highest quality.”

Seven on the tracks — “American Dream,” “Someday,” “For The Love Of Man,” “One Of These Days,” “Wrecking Ball,” “Hangin’ On A Limb,” and “Name Of Love” have all been released in some form over the years. “Last Of His Kind” has never been released.

The songs were originally recorded in 44.1 CD quality. Fans can expect Reprise Records to release a CD edition in early 2022 followed by a vinyl edition in mid 2022 as disc 13 of volume three of the Neil Young Archives.

The collection arrives two weeks after Young released Barn, featuring Crazy Horse. The ten new songs encompass all that Neil Young with Crazy Horse are known for, beautiful romantic acoustic ballads, powerhouse electric rockers and insightful rollicking tunes that stick with you. A film accompanies the release.
