Honor begins in 2023

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has formally declared that Bruce Springsteen’s birthday, September 23rd, will be known as Bruce Springsteen Day across the state. Governor Murphy presented the proclamation at the American Music Honors, which took place at the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music last week, bestowing the honor “for creating the soundtrack to our glory days.”

“Bruce Springsteen is one of the most recognizable, iconic and influential musicians – and New Jerseyans – of all time,” states Governor Murphy. “It is important that we recognize Bruce for all he has done and will continue to do, from giving us the gift of his music to lending his time to the causes close to his heart, including making the Archives and Center for American Music a repository that will inspire tomorrow’s songwriters and singers. We thank him for showing the world what it means to live our New Jersey values. I am both honored and proud to declare his birthday Bruce Springsteen Day in New Jersey.”

Located within Monmouth University, the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music preserves the legacy of Bruce Springsteen and celebrates the history of American music and its diversity of artists and genres. The Archives and Center for American Music held the inaugural American Music Honors. The honorees of the 2023 American Music Honors included E Street Band member, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, political activist, music educator and best-selling author Stevie Van Zandt; Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and legendary soul artist Sam Moore of the ‘60s soul duo, Sam & Dave; longtime pop/soul singer and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darlene Love; and country/blues/rock singer-songwriter and social commentator Steve Earle.

Springsteen made his long-awaited return to the road on February 1st when he kicked off the trek in Florida. The shows mark Springsteen and The E Street Band’s first tour dates since February 2017, and their first in North America since September 2016.

European dates for the 2023 international tour were announced ten months ago and sold over 1.2 million tickets across the continent, with many cities adding second or third stadium shows due to popular demand. Last July, the New Jersey rocker sold more than 1.5 million tickets to the UK run of stadium shows, selling out less than eight hours of going on sale.

At the conclusion of their European run, which is scheduled to run through July 2023, Springsteen and The E Street Band will begin a second North American tour leg in August.

Last month, The Boss postponed several dates on the 2023 tour with the E Street Band due to illness within the band.
