Such was Bon Jovi’s originally bassist

It’s believed Alec John Such died at the age of 70 from natural causes early Saturday morning. TMZ reports that the original Bon Jovi bassist knew “something was wrong” when he got up to use the bathroom in his South Carolina home around 2:15 am on June 4th. He asked a friend who was staying with him to help him get back in bed, but when the friend returned to check on him, he was dead.

Tamara Willard, Chief Deputy Coroner for Horry County tells TMZ that EMS were called to the scene but couldn’t revive Such. Willard believes Such passed from natural causes and no accident or foul play is suspected.

The band shared the news of Such’s passing Sunday on social media. “We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such. He was an original,” Jon Bon Jovi shares.

Such was integral to the formation of Bon Jovi. He introduced drummer Tico Torres and former guitarist Richie Sambora to Jon Bon Jovi. That lineup, completed with keyboardist David Bryan, became the foundation that rocked the world during the band’s heyday from 1983-1994.

The band reunited with Such and former guitarist Sambora during the group’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The original five piece shared the stage together for an hour and a half, each taking turns speaking before performing four of their hits alongside the current lineup that features Hugh McDonald on bass, Phil X on lead guitar and producer John Shanks on rhythm guitar.
