Megadeth hosts special Metalverse takeover

Metal is reaching more people than ever before! With popular TV shows revitalizing metal for a younger audience, like Netflix’s Stranger Things catapulting metal icon Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” to the No. 1 chart spot 36 years after its release, and with other legendary metal music heavyweights such as Ozzy Ozbourne and Slipknot – both Pandora Billionaires themselves – releasing new albums this month, metal is being brought to the forefront of mainstream culture. Now, Pandora is expanding its metal programming to include a new flagship station, Metalverse, for old and new fans alike dedicated to all things metal.

Taking its inspiration from the enormous popularity of Pandora’s Heavy Metal station, Metalverse is now the official hardest and heaviest place on Pandora. The station will be a one-stop-shop for metal fans featuring iconic bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Rammstein, Gojira, and Lamb of God as well as highlighting burgeoning acts that continue to innovate the genre and bring it to new audiences like Spiritbox, whose song “Holy Roller” was performed by a 10-year-old contestant on America’s Got Talent.

To celebrate the launch of Pandora’s new Metalverse station, Megadeth is hosting a special takeover of Pandora’s Metalverse, as they release of their highly anticipated new album The Sick…The Dying…And The Dead. On Tales from the Metalverse, Dave Mustaine, James LoMenzo, Dirk Verbeuren, and Kiko Loureiro from the band will share unheard stories about their favorite musicians like Gene Simmons of Kiss and Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest.

“For some weird reason, I think Gene [Simmons] likes giving me a hard time,” says Mustaine. “We went over to go take a picture with them and Gene was in his uniform. I hear this guy go, ‘Hello me, it’s me. Hello me, it’s me.’ And, it wasn’t, you know, the line, ‘Hello me, meet the real me’ or whatever. And I look up and it’s Gene Simmons singing my lyrics and I thought, ‘What a blast, who would ever have thought this would happen?’ And I thought, ‘Okay, so now you have a chance to make your mind up. You’re gonna tell ’em the right lyrics and risk getting smashed by the gargoyle boot. Or are you gonna just let ’em say it wrong and just ride this one out?’ So I didn’t say anything and that was cool. We’ve always had a fun time when we play with Kiss.”
