Prince's 'Around The World In A Day' to get 40th anniversary deluxe reissue

Prince’s seventh album, Around The World In A Day, will be reissued as a deluxe edition for its 40th anniversary this fall. The new version will be available on 2 CDs, 3 LPs, a single CD, a single LP, a single LP blue marble 140-gram vinyl, and a single LP picture disc on November 21st via NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises, in partnership with Warner Records and Legacy Recordings.

The sets contain audio newly remastered by original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, with additional mastering by Chris James. The Around The World In A Day Deluxe Edition includes the original album plus an entire bonus disc of extra material. The B-Sides & Bonus Tracks disc features the extended versions of the A & B sides, including the remix of “Paisley Park,” the extended version of “Girl and Hello (Fresh Dance Mix),” the nearly 22-minute 12-inch version of “America” (which makes its debut on CD), and two versions of the 1985 song, “4 The Tears In Your Eyes.”

Around the World In A Day was the second to be credited to Prince and the Revolution. It was released on April 22, 1985, and featured no fewer than four singles. The album saw Prince and the Revolution change musical direction again, experimenting with psychedelic textures, incorporating new instrumentation, and expanding the genres of songs within the album.

In July, the labels released the nearly 22-minute full version of “America” to digital outlets. Originally released in October 1985, “America,” which Prince described as “straightforwardly patriotic,” was the fourth and final single to be taken from Around The World In A Day, released five months earlier. The 12-inch version of the track weighs in at 21 minutes 41 seconds and has been newly remastered in stereo by Bernie Grundman for its first-ever streaming release. The single and album versions of the song were edited down from this epic performance, which was only cut short as the tape ran out.
