Album gets expanded in super deluxe editions

Prince’s 13th studio album, Diamonds And Pearls, is getting a super deluxe reissue this fall. Diamonds And Pearls was the first with his new backing band, The New Power Generation. Featuring six massive international singles, including the hits “Gett Off,” “Cream,” and the iconic title track, the album was a worldwide smash reaching multi-platinum status in the USA and the UK, where it remains his best-selling album.

Diamonds And Pearls was unveiled to the world on October 1, 1991, and it instantly had a huge commercial and cultural impact, becoming the biggest selling non-soundtrack album of Prince’s career. Over the past three decades, the reasons for its enormous success have been discussed extensively. Not least of these was Prince’s decision to finally engage with major television exposure and an extensive tour of Europe, Japan and his first trip to Australia. The album also offered a diverse collection of sounds that could appeal to a wide variety of listeners. Diamonds And Pearls had something for everyone.

Diamonds And Pearls: Super Deluxe Edition will be released on October 27th as a 7 CD/Blu-ray set and 12 LP/Blu-ray set. The Super Deluxe Edition contains 75 audio tracks across 7 CDs, of which 47 are previously unreleased, including 33 studio tracks from Prince’s legendary Vault. The Super Deluxe Edition opens with Prince & The New Power Generation’s multi-platinum album, Diamonds And Pearls, dazzlingly remastered for the very first time by Prince’s original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman.

Also included are 15 of the incredible remixes and B-sides from the era, including the never commercially released “Gett Off (Damn Near 10 Min.)” mix, all of which have also been remastered for the very first time. At the heart of the set sit 33 previously unreleased studio recordings from Prince’s legendary Vault, making up three hours of audio.

The set also includes an entire previously unreleased audio recording of Prince & The New Power Generation’s preview performance of the Diamonds And Pearls Tour at Prince’s Minneapolis club, Glam Slam, on January 11th, 1991.

The Blu-ray features the previously unreleased Live At Glam Slam 1991 show, presented in 2K video with Dolby Atmos, Dolby True HD 5.1 and stereo audio, as well as the Special Olympics Concert recorded and broadcast on July 20th, 1991 in 1080p HD video with Dolby Atmos, Dolby True HD 5.1 and stereo audio, and Special Olympics Soundcheck recorded on July 19th, 1991 in 2K video with stereo audio).

The Blu-ray content is completed by the inclusion of a restored version of the Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection in 1080p video with stereo audio, originally released in 1993. The video collection features the original promo videos for “Gett Off,” “Cream,” “Diamonds And Pearls,” “Insatiable,” “Strollin’,” “Money Don’t Matter 2 Night,” and “Call The Law,” as well as live videos of “Thunder,” “Jughead” and “Live 4 Love.”

The sets will be housed in a telescoping 12-inch box, and accompanied by a 12-inch 120 page hardback book featuring new essays by author & broadcaster Andrea Swensson; Archivist and Senior Researcher for the Prince Estate Duane Tudahl; British music critic and Prince expert Jason Draper; De Angela L. Duff, an Industry Professor at NYU Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn; Social Media Personality KaNisa Williams; and an introduction from Public Enemy founder, Chuck D. It’ll also contain rare and previously unseen photography by Randee St. Nicholas;  Prince’s handwritten lyrics; and a fold-out double-sided poster.

Single CD, 2 CD, 2 LP and 4 LP slim editions will also be available.

A limited edition and individually number 7-inch singles box set will also be available containing remastered audio for the six official singles from Diamonds And Pearls released in 1991 and 1992. Also included is a new 7-inch single comprising two previously unreleased tracks, “Alice Through The Looking Glass” and “Horny Pony (Version 2).” The seven singles on pearl white vinyl are housed in individually designed sleeves and placed in a gorgeous, luxe clamshell box with a set of seven art-cards featuring previously unseen photos from Prince photographer and videographer Randee St Nicholas.
