Record Store Day Drops release dates unveiled

Releases are spread over three months

Organizers of Record Store Day, known as RSD Drops in 2020, have unveiled the release dates for this year’s slate of rarities and special edition releases. RSD was initially moved from April 18th to June 20th due to the coronavirus outbreak, but now will be spread out for August 29th, September 26th and October 24th as social distancing orders remain in effect throughout the world.

“No one knows what kind of party we’ll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world,” organizers share. “So we’re focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection.”

August 29th releases include The Black Keys’ Let’s Rock (45 RPM Edition); Black Crowes’ Lions, Bone Thugs N Harmony’s Creepin’ On Ah Come Up; a pair from David Bowie: ChangesNowBowie and I’m Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74) both on CD and LP; Charlie XCX Vroom Vroom EP; U2’s 11 O’Clock Tick Tock (40th Anniversary Edition) and more. Def Leppard is releasing Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, a five song EP featuring complete performances from the band’s inauguration with guests Brian May and Ian Hunter.

The first arrives on September 26th with Fillmore West 1-31-71, containing the complete concert from the Fillmore West on January 31, 1971. It’s available for the first time on vinyl across two LPs with only 6k available. The last set, An Evening With The Allman Brothers Band: First Set, is available on October 24th across two LPs. It comes in two configurations: Blue Black Swirl Vinyl Version and Orange Swirl Vinyl Version. Only one thousand copies of each will be pressed.

Brandi Carlile has been tapped as Record Store Day Ambassador 2020. She has strong ties to Seattle which has inspired her to release a 12″ single of her paying tribute to Soundgarden, which has strongly influenced her career. A Rooster Says features her covers of “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed.” Ten thousand copies will be pressed.
