Rockett has been fully vaccinated for months

Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has tested positive for COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated. The rock star and videographer shared the news on social media this week, stating he believes he contracted the Delta variant from his son Jude — who is too young to receive the vaccination — during an overnight stay in their 16-foot camper.

“My son and I stayed in the camper on Friday. On Saturday, he came down with symptoms, so Saturday afternoon, I took him to the urgent care and we had him tested. The doctor said, ‘It’s 50/50. We don’t know.’ Sunday, we got the call that he was positive. On Monday, I went in and got tested. It came back negative ’cause I was a day early, and I got the results on Tuesday. By then, I was having symptoms, and so I went back in and got a rapid test and it was positive, so, I’m not the only one in my family. Now everybody has it,” Rockett shares in a video message which can be seen below.

“Guess what!? I’m vaccinated. I’m fully vaccinated, and I’ve been vaccinated for months. I don’t know if this is the Delta variant, but every physician I’ve spoken to said it has every hallmark of being the Delta variant.”

While catching COVID-19 while fully vaccinated is still a possibility, there’s a much lower risk of testing positive and spreading the highly contagious disease. However, early data show the vaccines may work against some variants but could be less effective against others. Most are asymptomatic if contracted while fully vaccinated.

“People who are fully vaccinated are protected from severe disease and death, including from the variants currently circulating in the country such as Delta,” the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) says. “Virtually all COVID-19 hospitalizations and death are among those who are unvaccinated.”

Rockett has been self quarantining between his camper and garage on his property outside of Los Angeles. His symptoms include having a dry mouth, running nose, chills and sweats that left him waking up “soaking wet.”

The drummer says he doesn’t regret getting vaccinated despite contracting it. He says his symptoms are likely less severe for having received the two part Pfizer vaccine than not.

“The reason I don’t feel that way is because I know that this would be way worse, especially if it was the Delta variant. And I’m pretty sure — pretty, pretty sure — and I’m gonna get a DNA sequence to make sure — but absolutely every doctor that my family and I have come in contact with, and I think we’re counting seven doctors now, have all said, ‘It is the hallmarks… Everything that you describe is the Delta variant.’ So I’m quite confident that that’s what it is. And that would completely devastate me if I hadn’t had the vaccine,” Rockett states.

“I actually feel pretty good compared to what I felt like a couple a days ago, and it’s pretty insane that I feel this good this fast. I mean, some people go like a month, okay, or worse or go to the ER, okay? I know somebody else that is going through this right now who is doing way worse than me, not vaccinated.”

Rockett was diagnosed with HPV-attributed throat cancer in 2015 and is now in remission after undergoing radiation and immunotherapy.

“I am a cancer survivor — almost five years ago, I had cancer, and I’ve been cancer-free since then,” Rockett adds. “I did a little inquiry with the clinic, and they said, ‘No. We’re getting dozens of people a day that are vaccinated that are testing positive with the Delta variant. So, this is the predominant variant right now, and it just sucks, ’cause it’s no fun — trust me — it’s no fun. But it could have been a lot worse. I’m not on a respirator. My doctor told me yesterday (Mon, June 12th). We had a nice call for about 20 minutes. I showed him all my numbers. But he said, ‘I’m pretty convinced you’re out of the woods.’ It’d be very weird for me to just relapse all of a sudden.”

Rockett would currently be on tour with Poison with Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts if the Stadium Tour hadn’t been postponed another year due to COVID restrictions. The US tour consists of 31 shows after adding multiple dates due to high demand with 25 selling out initially with over a million tickets sold.
