The group has been long rumored to reunite

Sammy Hagar fooled fans into thinking that he and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony are reuniting with their old band for a new tour. Hagar published the tongue and cheek post featuring a picture of the foursome with the caption, “Van Halen announces world tour ” on Easter Sunday, which also happened to be April Fool’s Day.

Hagar surprised many by the post, garnering responses from fans around the world.

“It’s to bad Eddie can’t get over past issues. I’m a fan of both of you, Mike & the Van Halen’s. Time never stops. It would be a great show to see! To bad it won’t ever happen. Keep rocking Sammy! ,” one fan writes.

“So. Not. Funny! ,” responds another one.

Several responses from Japan are included in the tweets. One translation states, “Even if I knew that it was a synthetic photo of April Fools Day, I was very excited when Sammy tweeted this joke and realized that I was a BIG v fan.

Van Halen and original singer David Lee Roth have reunited off and on for tours in recent years. But lately, rumors have circulated more and more that Hagar would be rejoining the group that saw superstar status with Hagar behind the mic. In December 2016, we reported that SiriusXM’s Debatable stated the group was rumored to be recording with Roth and planned to support a new album with a tour for the group’s 40th anniversary this year.

The show, which claims sources will neither confirm, deny, nor reveal themselves, also stated that the group had been talking to “old friends,” referring to Hagar and Anthony. However, Hagar has stated several times in the past that he would never return to Van Halen without Anthony.

“There’s no scenario I’d do it without Mikey,” he states. “Absolutely not. I would do a solo album with Ed. We can call it the Sam and Ed Show or the Ed and Sam Show. But there’s no such thing as a Van Halen reunion without Mikey. I think they just proved that.”

Per usual, mum’s the word since this rumor and anything else regarding Van Halen. The Debatable hosts claimed “horse shit” on this news when discussing it a year and a half ago. So far, they seem to be correct.
