Metallica Day is Dec 16th

In celebration of Metallica’s 40th anniversary and two shows this weekend at the Chase Center, the City of San Francisco has declared December 16th “Metallica Day.” The band was bestowed the honor during a press event on Thursday.

“Thank you so much to Mayor @LondonBreed for hosting us this afternoon @ChaseCenter and for the incredible honor of this proclamation. Contributing to San Francisco in our small way means the world to us,” the band tweeted.

The band is taking over the city for its 40th anniversary celebration. The band will perform two shows at the Chase Center on December 17th and 19th with a full weekend of curated live music, Blackened Whiskey tastings, and other events. In-person tickets were only available exclusively to members of the group’s Fifth Member fan club, but The Coda Collection will be livestreaming both shows via Amazon Prime Video.

On Saturday, December 18th, a film festival showing Cliff ‘Em All, Cunning Stunts and Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de México at the AMC Kabuki 8 at 1881 Post Street.

Photographer extraordinaire Ross Halfin will be busy all weekend signing copies of Metallica: The Black Album in Black & White, conducting a Q&A with the band’s Steffan Chirazi, and hosting a gallery show.

Metallica is also teaming up with Amazon Music to release “The Metallica Takeover,” a guest-hosted station available exclusively to Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers and Prime members. The band members will break down stories spanning the evolution of their music, set to a curated soundtrack featuring their biggest hits, fan favorites, and deep cuts.

The Metallica Takeover is the latest DJ Mode station to premiere on Amazon Music – a new, on-demand listening experience that combines the personalization, control, and breadth of catalog of streaming with the vibrancy and personality of DJ-hosted radio. Fans can hear The Metallica Takeover now on Amazon Music, by simply asking “Alexa, play The Metallica Takeover” in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android, and on Alexa-enabled devices.

SiriusXM is also celebrating 40 Years Of Metallica with a three-day takeover of Liquid Metal (Ch. 40), featuring a Top 40 countdown voted on by fans, specialty shows hosted by members of the band, seven select Metallica concerts spanning four decades, a live call-in roundtable following Metallica’s 40th anniversary shows in San Francisco, and so much more.
