McCreery will be honored in an upcoming ceremony

Scotty McCreery has been invited to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. Garth Brooks surprised the country crooner with the invitation on Sunday night (Dec 3rd) as a Christmas gift he’ll never forget.

“Merry Christmas,” Garth said walking onto the stage handing McCreery a wrapped gift. “This is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry,” Garth later continued. “We would love to invite you to be the newest member of the Opry.”

“Holy cow. Yes, I would love to,” McCreery replied. “I grew up listening to your records Garth and you’re a part of what made me want to do this for a living and didn’t think that dream would become a reality, but it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight. God bless y’all.”

McCreery continued, “When I got started doing this people asked, ‘what are your goals,’” voice cracking with emotion McCreery shared, “and I’d say ‘one day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’” Then bent down and touched the circle of wood in the Opry’s center stage where so many of his heroes and peers have stood.

McCreery’s induction date will be announced soon.

McCreery was the spotlight artist during Opry Country Christmas hosted by Larry Gatlin.

In October, McCreery released an original Christmas single, “Feel Like the Holidays.” Written by Frank Rogers, Monty Criswell, Derek George, Bobby Hamrick and Jeremy Bussey and produced by Rogers along with Derek Wells and Aaron Eshuis, the new Christmas music follows the release of McCreery’s latest single, “Cab in a Solo” which garnered him the most first-week adds at country radio of his career and is moving quickly up the charts.

Having spent almost half his life in the spotlight, the North Carolina native continues to push himself creatively as well as personally and is launching the next chapter in his career with his 2024 headlining Cab in a Solo Tour. McCreery will be joined by Anne Wilson as direct support as well as Greylan James and Noah Hicks on select dates. The tour, produced by Live Nation, will kick off at Hobart Arena in Troy, OH on January 26, 2024, and trek across the US with stops in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston and more.
